SCAN2BIM process

Creating high speed, high accuracy BIM models using 3D laser scanners, supported by robotic total station control networks.

Process explained

  • Agree on specification for laser scan and completed BIM model, including level of detail and scope of work

  • Establish accurate quality checked control network

  • 3D laser scan internally and externally

  • Register scan clouds together and quality check accuracy

  • Use quality checked point cloud to create the 3D intelligent BIM model using Autodesk Revit

  • Create a range of deliverables from the completed BIM model

  • Archive and maintain the BIM model and scan cloud for future additions or later project phases

Deliverables

Providing a range of deliverables directly from the Revit 3D model throughout the life cycle of the project.

Options

  • 3D point cloud – available in a range of file formats, including for use with the Free Pointools Viewer.

  • Leica TruView – another method for viewing the completed point cloud through an online webshare

  • 3D BIM model – passing on the completed as-built accurate BIM model of the site, we can create

  • Traditional survey – creating a traditional topographical survey of the surrounding area

  • 2D CAD drawings – floorplans, elevations, sections and sectional elevations, extracted quickly from the BIM model

  • Visualisations & Flythroughs – rendered images and animations, used for marketing and media

We are also able to convert existing 2D floorplans into basic BIM models if required. It is essential that the scope of work and level of detail is agreed in a specification at the onset of any project.

We can provide a menu of choice for the scope of work and levels of 3D detail to be modelled selecting the level of generalisation appropriate to your specific project.
